LEARN THE SECRETS THAT SEPARATE THE AUTEURS FROM THE AMATEURS…

What makes this course any different?

At Cinevisionary, we don't just teach filmmaking; we sculpt artists. Beyond the technicalities, we dive into the art of film storytelling, equipping you with the mastery to transcend mere competence. Our curriculum isn't a regurgitation of industry standards; it's a journey into the essence of cinematic expression. We empower you with the WHY behind every frame, not just the HOW. Through less commonly known techniques and strategic workflows, we furnish you with a practical toolkit to help you develop your distinct voice and captivate your audience.

At Cinevisionary we focus on elevating your filmmaking craft beyond the basics. We teach YOU how to bring meaning into your work.

The course materials have been researched and developed over a number of years through extensive research and workshopped with students and filmmakers. All that work has been distilled into the Art of Directing where you will be given information that goes way beyond the bog standard nuts and bolts advice seen time and again in other courses and YouTube videos.

What will you be teaching?

Topics include:

  • The Classical Hollywood Coverage System (the basics)

  • Psychological placement of camera

  • Developing a visual language through Image Systems

  • Using the frame (open or closed, height in the frame, fg/mg/bg)

  • Using theme to develop a cinematic language

  • Understanding and implementing visual subtext

  • Using contrast and affinity to build tension and release

  • The subjective/objective continuum

  • Narrative point of view (NPOV) and dramatic irony

  • Look / See Patterns

  • Breaking down a script cinematically with keyframes

  • Gestalt filmmaking

  • Visual vectors

  • and more

The modules in Art of Directing are designed to help you understand specific practical techniques and theories you can bring into your own filmmaking to develop your own directorial voice and cinematic language.

Through a blend of multimedia seminar lectures, practical demonstrations, and ample networking opportunities, this workshop is engineered for those eager to find or develop their directorial voice. There will also be an opportunity at the end of each module to ask questions. Whether you’re an aspiring director or looking to broaden your filmmaking repertoire, this event is tailored for you.

Who’s leading the course?

The course is led by Robert Dee. Robert is a practicing filmmaker with over twenty years professional experience in filmmaking and lecturing. He holds a Masters in Filmmaking (Dist.) where he focused on visual subtext and lectured at the Raindance Festival and Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies. He previously ran the BA Filmmaking Undergraduate course at Raindance Film School where he developed and led the Directing and Academic Pathways and also ran a filmmaking group that made over 30 short films.

Previous students he has taught have gone on to win festival awards, earn places at the New York Film School, work on shows such as Inside No.9, land lead roles in feature films, and direct multi-million dollar campaign films.

When and Where is it happening?
